The Meaning of Abstention
Double degree programme in Economics of the NRU HSE and the University of London
Previous studies of information collection, aggregation and reporting have either omitted the possibility of abstention or thought of as a modifier of the decision quality. In this paper I present abstention in the framework of reputation maximization by constructing, solving and analyzing the model with an agent that receives two signals and is prompted to report them. I find and sort out different equilibria that appear in the model and analyze them on specific examples. I conclude my research by showing the significance of abstention as a phenomena that positively influences the information aggregation process.
