The paper is dedicated to a distributed Amazon S3-compatible object storage application implementation. Applications running in production are serving an enormous number of requests nowadays, some of which deal with unstructured data that users upload to and download from them. Filesystems and databases do not appear to provide enough facility to work with objects out-of-the-box. Often, storing of objects is delegated to a service called an object storage. One of the most popular is Amazon S3. In this work, an implementation of a scalable, resilient and highly available S3-compatible distributed object storage system is described. With the help of functional paradigm of Scala programming language, Apache Cassandra database and Akka framework that is built atop of actor-based concurrency model, high availability, scalability, resiliency and data storage redundancy are achieved. The paper contains 60 pages, 3 chapters, 3 illustrations, 14 tables, 28 schemes, 35 bibliography items, 4 appendices. Keywords: object storage, Amazon S3, Scala, Cassandra.
