In this paper, the theoretical and the practical aspect of the principle of financial independence of local self-government in the Russian Federation. The study defined the essence of the principle of financial independence of local self-government. Given the dynamics of the development of Federal legislation in the field of regulation of budgetary relations at the local level. Viewed the present state of budgets of municipalities and on the basis of this analysis identified the characteristics and the main problematic aspects of the implementation of the principle of financial independence of local self-government.
