Sociology
(Bachelor’s programme)
2017
Student dormitory is an institution of socialization, where a student accumulates a certain communicative and adaptive experience. Subsequently, many of the strategies and norms of behavior learned by a student during staying in the dormitory accompany him throughout his life and have influenced it. This paper aims to identify the universals and differences existing in the system of student dormitories rights and their influence on the student’s life. In order to prove this statement, it is necessary to understand the features of the legal system and the power distribution structure with its agents in the three student dormitories. In response to this situation, the study is conducted using qualitative methods of data collection and this paper analyzes 20 interviews different students who live in one of the three dormitories. Also, 292 questionnaires are collected among students who are randomly selected in each dormitory.

As a result of this study different systems of formal and informal rules are revealed in each dormitory. The dormitory and the University control over a significant part of the student's life. Another main finding is the existence of a clear link between dormitory and the University, thus the dormitory is an extension of the University in its laws, rules and values.
