Long-term Determinants of Development in Transition Economies

As the title implies the study describes the factors that influence long-term development in transition economics. The sample includes information about 21 transition economies between 1996 and 2015 among which Former republics of the USSR and six countries of Central and East Europe. It is reported that democratization and economic globalization have a positive and robust influence on development in transition economics. Besides, much attention is given to specific determinants of democratization in considered countries. It is shown that the presence of decommunization policy foster democratic development while duration of socialism has an insignificant impact.
