Configuration of Traditional and Computer-assisted Methods of Content Analysis In Social Studies: the Criteria of Life Quality in Russian Media
2017
Correct and qualitative processing of textual information is traditionally one of the most important tasks of sociological research. Today, in the face of increasing amounts of text data, considerable evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of automated methods of working on the text at various stages of the research - from the formulation of the problem to the creation of an analytical report - is of considerable research interest

The purpose of this paper is to provide a comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of computer-aimed and traditional methods in samling, analyzing and classifying the texts of news media.

In order to reach this purpose, it is supposed to be necessary to identify the advantages and disadvantages of traditional and automated methods of word processing at various stages of sociological research in terms of sample representativeness, as well as reliability, validity and effectiveness of research results.

The data consists of 108 news articles of regional and federal Russian media. To identify contexts for the use of the concept of "quality of life", various automated and non-automated methods for classifying text are implemented in this work. The analysis is performed in the "R" environment, and the Nvivo program.
