Political Competition as a Factor of Stability in Autocracies

Political competition is one of the key characteristics of the political regime in a state. Political competition determines interaction patterns among different political actors and inside the political system of the state. Therefore, political competition can be used to define not only democratic and hybrid regime type, but the autocratic one too. Moreover, it can be used to fixate certain type of autocracy. One way or another, every regime transformation is accompanied by the period of destabilization. Political stability of the state is determined including the political institutions of the state. As long as the political competition is one of the key characteristics of the political regime, the change of political competition can also influence on the change of political stability of the autocracy. The main aim of this research is the identification of the connection between the change of the political competition and political stability in autocracy. Moreover, this research reveals the influence of the change of political competition on the change of political stability in autocracies with different types of economic development.
