Extracting Social Networks from Literary Fiction

In this paper a social networks are extracted from the Russian novel "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy. Nodes (vertices) in a network stand for characters, connections (edges) – for closeness between two nodes (characters). Two different approaches are considered: the first applies co-occurrence statistics, the second one uses word embeddings tools for representing words as vectors. The results are evaluated by graph constructed in other research via linguistic tool ABBYY Compreno.
