Information extraction from documents containing a considerable amount of data in graphical form is an important task in certain fields. Existing tools for visual content recognition are not always capable to give semantic interpretation of some types of images. Text fragments accompanying images may be used to increase its quality. This paper describes a system of text-based image semantic analysis. The work involved collection of a corpus of English documents, features specific for image-related text fragments were identified allowing construction of an ontology which became the base for extraction templates.
