This paper includes analysis of theoretical concepts of electronic payments and the influence of this technology on electronic commerce. Also, it focuses on Internet payment service providers and the main standards for payment transactions. This paper contains an analysis of international trends of global e-market and best practices of safe online payments. The market of e-commerce in Russia and its weak features are described. Based on the international best-practices several possible directions of development of national payment system are offered to promote e-commerce in Russia.
