This paper evaluate the rate of educational assortative mating and its impact on income inequality in Russia using RLMS-HSE data for 1995–2015. Our findings suggest that the Russian marriage market is characterized by positive assortative mating at all levels of education. During the entire period, the degree of assortative mating has being declining, though with substantial heterogeneity across education sub-groups. The decline has been most significant for university graduates. At the same time. assortative mating has increased among the low educated. Changes in assortative mating had weak impact on the level of household income inequality.
