Creating an Interactive Online Textbook on Typography for Students of the HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL

Student: Khokhlova Elizaveta

Supervisor: Alexandra Kuznetsova

Faculty: Faculty of Creative Industries

Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2017

The theme of my diploma project is the creation of an online textbook for typography for the School of Design in the form of a website. This task meets the needs of the School. The designer has the resources to enable students to quickly and independently study the basics of working with text and font. In the process of working on a thesis project, I was thinking about alternative ways of presenting information. In a visual study, I also tried to find a new, simpler and more visual than a long text, a way to tell about great fonts. I decided to study history and understand with what images, objects of art, design, important historical events, they can be context-related. As a result, I need to get a story about fonts that are told through images that can later be used in the corresponding section on the site. So, the task of visual research is the creation of various associative and logical connections between great fonts and images, which should contribute to understanding the features of fonts, their nature and speeding up memorization. As images for visual research can be used works of art and design, architectural details, abstract natural phenomena, random and marginal results of human activities.
