Comparative Analysis of Strategic Planning of Tourism Development in the Regions of Russia

The tourism industry is consolidating its position in the world’s economy as one of the most profitable spheres. That is why the interest around strategic planning in context of sustainable tourism has significantly grown for the last 2 years. The purpose of this paper is to analyze present methodologies of strategic planning as a special function of management in tourism development in regions of Russia. For the most part, the analysis is based on federal and regional development programs, regulating tourism service in Republic of Kareliya and Pskov region. Besides, in order to study the foreign experience of strategic planning in tourism, the legislation of developed countries was analyzed. The research includes two parts: theoretical survey and empirical analysis. The first one includes the study of features and approaches of strategic planning in tourism destinations; the second shows the analysis of governmental programs, foreign experience and recommendations for improving.
