In the present work the moral and religious transformation of L. N. Tolstoy are examined in the context of epistolary dialogue with his contemporary N. N. Strakhov. The main purpose is to establish the connection of their ideas with the aim to show that the ideological transformation of Tolstoy occurred in the close connection with the philosopher Strakhov. There was analyzed that the dialogue constructs Tolstoy's gradually organizing ideological transformations which predetermines the issues of his "Confession". Also there was revealed that in the process of Dialogue there were a self-understanding and mutual understanding of both philosophers. It allowed them to become "full" in the relation to their own worldview. Particular attention is paid to the fact that during the Dialogue not only the Tolstoy's moral and ethical transformation takes place, but also the transformation of ideas of Strakhov who never actively expressed himself on the subjects of moral and religious nature. The study clarifies the place of Correspondence in the spiritual searches of Tolstoy, the role of Strakhov in these searches, and the ideological transformation of Strakhov.
