The problem of reforming of Korean conglomerates (known as well as chaebols) is very topical especially if considering current political events which are taking place in the Republic of Korea. Large conglomerates also turned out to be under a wave of public criticism because they are also involved in the scandals connected with an impeachment Pak Geun Hae. The question of reforming chaebols was particularly acute in time of Asian crisis of 1997. The purpose of this work is to identify the main directions of rchaebols' restructuring and what concrete measures were taken by the state. This work proves that despite the efforts of the government chaebol reforms were not complete due to various citcumstances and could not achieve the desirable results on restriction of the power of conglomerates.
