Successful business on the Internet requires the management of online companies to clearly understand their strong and weak positions. They must be able to make decisions that meet the requirements of a unique combination of Internet’s inherent characteristics: electronic markets, technology platform and marketing question. Evaluating an e-commerce website's design efficiency is a very important topic, and at the same time a challenge for sellers in e-commerce. There are practically no established e-business models for companies even within the same industry, recommendation from the practitioners on the design and content of the site often contradict. In this context, it is very important to have a method by which it will be possible to evaluate what changes and strategic decisions will benefit given specific e-commerce organization. In the course of this work, a suitable model for estimating and comparing design effectiveness will be determined and an appropriate software solution based on this model will be created. Next, this software will be used to analyze data on user behavior collected over two weeks in a Russian online store - a week before the change in the structure of the site and a week after that. The main goal of this study is to develop an IT solution that will be able to quantify the effectiveness of the website in online sales. It will be done in a generalized, industry-agnostic way, so that theoretically any merchant in e-commerce business might assess the status of their current website with it and develop ways for improvement from there. Based on the results of this work, we will be able to analyze the impact of the change in the design of the website on its effectiveness. The theoretical and practical significance of this study, as well as warnings and considerations regarding the application of this methodology, will be summed up. The work ends with a discussion of the potential future development in this area of work.
