Academic cheating is a serious problem of modern education. Students' voluntary control can become a possible method of combating dishonesty. Unfortunately, a few studies show that such control is not common among youth in Russia. That is why the main purpose of the article is to focus on factors, which can influence students taking decisions on voluntary control. The paper gives an overview of the main theories of power and control, as well as theoretical and empirical studies devoted to academic cheating and methods of combating it. This allows to make some assumptions about hypothesis taken. The analysis of data collected using the vignette method and a series of personal, unformalized interviews makes it possible to answer theoretical questions posed in the work, as well as to determine the further direction of student control research.
