Variation of Particles Marking Polar Question in Yiddish: Areal Perspective

This work focuses on factors causing the use of some question particles in yes/no questions in Yiddish and in the languages which had been in contact relationship with it: Polish, Ukrainian, Belorussian, Lithuanian. Using statistical methods on data specially collected for this research, we try to figure out, which factors cause the use of such particles as 'whether' and other in positions where its use was not grammatically obligatory.
