Lexical and Grammatical Expressive Means of Evaluation in Russian and English Language. Comparative Research

The aim of this study is to analyze lexical and grammatical expressive means of evaluation in Russian and English language and to compare them. The object of this study is the evaluative category. Lexical and grammatical expressive means of evaluation are the subject of this study. The theoretical significance of the work is a contribution to axiological linguistics The practical importance of the study is that the conclusions may be useful in the field of translation; also this work may be used as a basis for future comparative research between other languages. In relation to the main objective the following tasks are revealed. Firstly, it is essential to define the place of evaluation category among other linguistic categories. Secondly, to provide a comparison between various evaluation classifications. Thirdly, to describe all possible expressive means of evaluation at three language levels: derivational, lexical and syntactic. And, finally, to identify the similarities and the dissimilarities between evaluations in English and Russian language. For this study novel “Nice work” by David Lodge and its translation by Maria Vorsanova were selected as the material.
