Economic Effects of the Current Regime of Personal Data Protection in Russia and its Alternatives

In the modern world of smartphones and smartThings companies collect, store and use more information about consumers than ever before. These data are usually used effectively: to develop innovative products, stimulate demand and provide better products and services to consumers. Nevertheless, the collection and storage of large amounts of personal information entails many threats, while the institution of personal data in Russia has not yet been fully formed. The work evaluates the effectiveness of the current regime of the Personal Data Protection in Russia and examines its institutional alternatives. The main conclusion of the paper is that the process of development of the legislation of the Russian Federation fully corresponds to the current tendencies of toughening of requirements about usage of personal data by representatives of the information industry.
