The automobility that has been going during the second half of the XX century and the first years of the XXI lead to the situation, when the transport network no more satisfy the urban travel demand. The traffic congestion that became the usual thing in the most cities, makes the work of urban road network inefficient, the quality of citizens’ living poorer and leads to other negative consequences. Today the most of Europe countries are trying to build cities for pedestrians, not for automobiles for more comfort living in the city. But to make people use public transit more it needs to be more convenient for people than cars. The city transport needs to be popular with the population. To do that we need to know the factors that affects the decision about which mode of transport to use. This work analyse the factors that affect this decision and determine the demand on urban travel. The logit-model with binary choice was used in this work. We constructed several models: for Russia as a whole and for Moscow and other regions where the mode of transport for work travels depended on the socioeconomic factors, parameters of the ride on each mode and other factors. It was concluded that the most important factors are the difference of the ride cost and time, and the needed walking time.
