Factors of Authoritarian Trend in Modern Russia

This paper examines the phenomenon of the authoritarian trend and its factors in modern Russia The objectives of this work is the ratio of the traits of the authoritarian political regime with the existing legal institutions in the Russian Federation and the identification of legal and non-legal factors that influence the formation process of authoritarianism in modern Russia. Based on the objectives, tasks of the work is the theoretical analysis of authoritarianism as a political regime, defining specific features and peculiarities of authoritarian political regime, the analysis of constitutional legislation of the Russian Federation regulating the legal institutions of the state which directly affect the development of authoritarianism in Russia, an analysis of the social, political, economic and cultural life of the Russian society. As the result of the study we can draw the following conclusions: 1) In modern Russia, there is a trend to establish authoritarian political regime 2) Legal factors of this trend are: a strong institute of presidency, a strong financial and political inequality between the systemic and non-systemic political parties and political movements, strong legislative constraints on the realization of human rights 3) Non-legal factors of the authoritarian trend in modern Russia are: paternalism and conservatism of the Russians, the Imperial syndrome of Russians, legal nihilism of the population, low level of development of civil society
