The Problem of Identifying Fake News in the Russian Political Media Discourse

Chugunova Maria. The Problem of Identifying Fake News in the Russian Political Media Discourse The thesis deals with the phenomenon of fake news. The paper presents the research and study of the fake news identification problem in Russian political media discourse. Special attention is given to the issues of differences in the "fakes" phenomenon definitions in theoretical and practical discourses. The author made an attempt to classify fake news. Based on expert opinion, the main characteristics of fake news were determined. Also, the paper considers the features of the fake news perception by readers. Using questionnaires with real cases revealed that, despite that many readers are aware of using fake news by media, most of them cannot identify the criteria for determining fake news and to identify the "fake" nature of the material in practice.
