The Comparative Analysis of Factors Influencing Gender Wage Gap in International Companies Based in the United Kingdom in the years 2004 and 2014

This study aims to investigate the gender pay gap in international companies in the United Kingdom from 2004 to 2014, for both employees types (full – time & part-time) before and after the 2008 recession in order to find reasons behind the difference in pay if there is such present. There is a hypothesis that there is an unexplained gap in wage difference between male and female workers in international companies. This paper’s goal is to find evidence of the discrimination and establish factors that are causing and influencing such difference. Current work looks deeply into such discrimination phenomena as taste-based discrimination, statistical, vertical & horizontal segregations. This paper uses both quantitative and qualitative forms of research. Basing it’s conclusions on the following data sources: • Real international businesses case studies • Numerical data collected from the Labour Force Survey • Interviews • Observations • Document analysis Our recommendations would be that the UK government could consider taking into the consideration the following measures in order to reduce an opportunity cost for a woman to have a child: • Childcare support of 30 hours for families with small children aged 3-4 years • Encouraging and motivating young female generation to consider wider range of highly paid Looking forward, we are optimistic about the potential to address the issue of wage discrimination in the UK. In order to stimulate current issue, British Society has formed a number of communities that are fighting for the equal rights and in particular equal pay between both male and female. Members are producing reports, lectures with a number of recommendations. They are offering new regulations for the local governance in order to improve current position of the women in the labour market.
