Implementation of the Ontology of Nanomaterials Using Open Source Codes

Student: Nabokova Irina

Supervisor: Igor Morozov

Faculty: HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE)

Educational Programme: Mathematical Methods of Modelling and Computer Technologies (Master)

Final Grade: 8

Year of Graduation: 2017

To date, we have accumulated a large amount of experimental and calculated data on thermophysical properties of substances and materials. Effective use of this knowledge is difficult without organizing and creating modern databases that provides the user the ability to easily search by various criteria. Along with relational databases, which are currently most commonly used for the storage of such data in recent years actively developing the concept of a semantic network (Semantic Web). The main feature of this concept is the capability of extracting and processing information on the semantic level, combining heterogeneous information to create interdisciplinary databases. The purpose of this diploma was to create a semantic model for the properties of nanomaterials that could serve as a prototype to formalize the properties of the other type of substances. Describe the process of constructing the ontological model of the properties and characteristics was conducted in accordance with the recommendations of the UDS developed by the Commission on the numerical data (CODATA) and the International science Council (ICSU). In addition, based on open source software and OSF Drupal 7 was a prototype web application for working with taxonomies, including visualization, search, import and export data in JSON format. The current version of the application hosted on a free domain “семантик-веб.рус”.
