Master's thesis is devoted to the problems of applying programs of developing high-potential employees in Russian organizations. The purpose of this study is to identify the main problems that can be faced not only by managers but also by the employees during the applying HiPo programs. The paper systematizes the main theoretical managment approaches not only toward high-potential employees, but also toward talents in general. We analyze the main competencies that are important in the HiPo identification, and we define the problems and tasks of these comptenecies systematization in Russian companies. During the empirical study we identify, that the managers understand the importance of talent management and its positive influence on a company’s performance. However, existing practices are imperfect: the first problem is that the definition of "potential" is not fixed in companies, which in turn generates a second problem - the lack of fixed requirements for the competencies of high-potential employees. Key words: high-potential employees, talent, HiPO, Russian companies.
