Analysis of the Use of Social Networks in Formation of Student's Individual Educational Area

Due to the huge popularity of social networking among young people, the question about the possibilities of its’ application in education, and specifically in higher education, arises. This paper discusses and analyses the use of social media in Universities of various countries with the aim of identifying possible ways of exploitation of social networking in the universities of our country. Thus, the aim of this work is to study the best ways of using social networking in higher education. To achieve this aim the following tasks need to be accomplished:

1. To study and analyze the literature on the subject;

2. To compare the experience of foreign countries with Russia in usage of social networks in learning;

3. To develop a model of the possible use of social networks in education;

4. To apply this model in practice.

In this work, several types of research methods will be applied, and one of them is the analysis of the literature. Using this method we will be able to examine some theoretical aspects and examples of the practical use of social networks in education. Another method which is supposed to be used is modeling, which is an abstract reflection of the real world. Based on the results of the literature review, a model of "best practices" will be built. This model will reflect the most efficient ways to use social networks in education. In addition to the above methods, the method of interviewing will also be used in the paper, carried out via a survey containing no more than 10 questions which will be addressed to both students and teachers, with the aim to learn their opinion about the introduction of social networks into the educational process.

The result of this work will be presented to readers as a model of possible usage of social networks, which can be adapted to the particular Universities.
