Constitutional and Legal Status of a City of Federal Importance and Peculiarities of Its Local Self-Government
Jurisprudence
(Bachelor’s programme)
2017
-This study is focused on peculiarities of a city of federal importance in the context of local self-government. Since a city of federal importance is a federal state and a city at the same time, state and municipal authorities coexist on its territory and balance between them is yet to be found. Situation is complicated by comparatively unpopularity, so to speak, of municipal law studies in general and cities of federal importance studies in particular, what leaves the issue not covered enough.

As far as the topic is focused on a specific Russian legal phenomenon, central literature reviewed should be narrowed down to Russian academic literature such as articles and dissertations. Nevertheless, some foreign sources may provide essential information about similar models in other countries. It should be noted, this work does not involve history of local self-government in the cities that are now cities of federal importance, therefore reviewed materials start from modern Russia time period.
