Development of a VPN Client for the Needs of Small and Medium-sized Businesses

The volume of the thesis is 74 pages, on which there are 29 drawings. 24 sources were used during the thesis writing. Key words: OpenVPN, Man-in-the-Middle, Protection of network connections. The main objective of the study in this diploma is to protect the privacy of user data during transmission through unsecured network environments. The subject of the study are methods of hacking and protecting network connections during data transfer with a remote server over the Internet. The thesis includes an introduction, three chapters and a final conclusion. The introduction reveals the relevance of research in the chosen area, the problem, the purpose and objectives of the study. In this part the subject of research is determined, the methodological base of the research and significance are indicated. In the first chapter, a theoretical review of network attacks is proposed, the concept of Man in the Middle is disclosed, a theoretical description of attacks based on data interception is presented. In the conclusion, the results on the study of theoretical material are summarized. In the second chapter, a technical analysis of identified architectural and software vulnerabilities that allow for the conduct of network attacks is carried out. The analysis of methods of protection against malicious exploitation of vulnerabilities was conducted. The chapter includes the technological rationale for the goals set for the software application in development and a comparative analysis of the ones already proposed. Chapter three involves the formulation of requirements for the software product and their subsequent implementation. This section is devoted to technical features of software components implementation, the importance of the described methods usage, and the process of applications creation. The conclusion is devoted to the main results of the work, revealing the degree of attaining the initial objective.
