In today academic literature there is little evidence of exploration оf the industry specification of project management office. However, the tasks of PMO may vary depending on the company sector and firm’s strategic goals. The aim of this work is to create an industry specified PMO reference model as a tool for assessment and development оf PMO of retail company. The model is based on assessable descriptive characteristics of PMO that have been revealed by project management theorists. A reference model can be created basing on the estimates of those descriptive characteristics. A revelation of potential growth by means of matching criteria with the reference value is the baseline of the paper. A reference model creation method might be applicable for any industry and even might become a part of industry specified standard for project management office organization
