Political Science
(Bachelor’s programme)
2017
The final qualification work is devoted to study the development of visual discourse on migrants in six Russian newspapers in the context of changes of the state migration policy during the period from 1992 to 2016, namely, what visual discourses were formed in selected print media in different years and how this is related to changes in migration policy. The theoretical part of the work presents a review of the literature on migration theories and models of migration policy, a qualitative analysis of migration policy documents and a description of migration processes in modern Russia, and describes a theoretical model of the role of the media in agenda-setting and strategies in creating discourses on migration and migrants. The empirical part of the work is based on a quantitative visual analysis of the content of selected photo materials of printed media and a discursive interpretation of the received visual codes.
