Research of the Data Governance Program Best Practices and Its Impact on the Large-scaled Enterprises Businesses

Nowadays the amount of data generated by the organizations is growing faster than their data utilization capability. Many organization nowadays have already acknowledged that they should treat data as one of the most important corporate asset. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to gather Data Governance implementation best practices in large-scaled organizations and to describe the real implementation case to the large commercial retail bank with allocation of the CDO (Chief Data Officer). In this paper such research methods as literature analysis, aggregation and modeling are being used. The real bank has been being used as a modeling object. The paper consists of three parts. The first part contains theoretical base of research. The Data Governance concept, prerequisites and potential effects of the implementation, and the Data Quality are described in the first part. The second part consists of the best practices analysis. The literature review is described along with the custom implementation framework description. Also, CDO function is described in the second part with the description of different types of the function in different organizations. In the third part the implementation of the Data Governance function in real commercial retail bank is illustrated. Modeling of the CDO function both on corporate management level and on in-house functional levels with the description of the roles and responsibilities is given. Also the implementation Gant diagram and potential effects are described. The results of this work are aggregated best practices, implementation potential effects and formulated implementation model of the Data Governance function in the real commercial retail bank. This paper is relevant for top managers both from business units and from IT.
