The M&A market plays an important role in the history of the United States. Thanks to mergers and acquisitions, the structure of the economy has changed. In the thesis, the analysis of the efficiency of M&A transactions in the US insurance sector is given. This study was conducted on two sets of industries: life insurance and non-life insurance. Transactions for the period from 2006 to 2016 were considered, their number was 52 for life insurance and 89 for property insurance. Event evaluation was used to assess the effectiveness of transactions. The results of the research showed that the M&A transactions positively affect the additional value of the companies-buyers. At the same time for life insurance companies, this effect is stronger. It was also noted that the market reacts to M&A transactions before they are announced. The basic change in the prices of shares of the companies-buyers occurred in the periods: (-1; 1), (-3; 3) and (-5; 5).
