Managing a Project of Corporate Web Portal Software Development and Implementation

Software project management has evolved significantly since the first appearance of software engineering. Nowadays due to complexity of project environment and its constant changes project managers continually face a sizeable amount of challenges. Despite the variety of tools and methodologies that are present in contemporary IT field, there is no any universally recognized approach to software project management. Not only conventional linear methodologies but also agile methods possess certain benefits and drawbacks, therefore, none of these procedures can be considered preferential. The goal of this qualifying paper is to elaborate hybrid software project management methodology that is based on business requirements, experience of the project team and scenarios of cooperation within stakeholders. Moreover, the purpose is to evaluate the cost and duration of the project that is under study. In order to achieve the goal, the following objectives were stated: scientific articles and books concerning software project management were investigated, comparative analysis of software development approaches was conducted, experience of IT-product hybrid model development was examined, hybrid approach for given project was created and the cost of and duration of this project were estimated in project management software Microsoft Project. The designed methodology enabled to amalgamate tools and practices of agile and linear approaches to software project management efficiently while the template was approved and now can be used as a starting point for initial planning of project that is dedicated to Microsoft SharePoint corporate web portal software development and implementation. The template provided the opportunities for creating initial plan of the given project and the duration constituted 205 days while the cost was approximately 11 888 777 rubles.
