Higher Education in the Management of Socio-Economic Development of the Region (By the Example of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region)

The work is devoted to investigation of the role of higher education in the management of socio-economic development of the region. The aim of the study is to develop conceptual proposals for the revitalization of higher education of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region as the leading trend for integration and coordination arrangements in the field of reduction of socio-economic imbalances. For analysis was chosen several of the most important, in our opinion, indicators of higher education development in the region and built a regression model, which confirmed the existence of the relationship between the development of higher education in the region and the socio-economic development of the region. The study confirmed the fact of lag of Leningrad region in development of higher education of St. Petersburg, identified the prospects of cooperation between the two regions and developed conceptual proposals for the improvement of higher education in the Leningrad region.
