This paper portrays the situation of modern media landscape in Russia and abroad. It illuminates the place, where the immersive journalism and virtual reality in journalism are taking place. The theoretical part is about understanding the concept of virtual reality and virtuality, reviewing the actual condition of media environment in 2017 and analyzing use of virtual reality in journalism in Russian and foreign mass media.

The practical part, describes the user's feedback/experience and the uniqueness of the immersive journalism, injects the audience for VR- projects and uniqueness of it.

Practical part also offers the project "SuperNova" as an innovative department for Russian media "Novaya Gazeta", which will specialize on VR format and 360* video. The paper explains and estimates audience, concept, video format, uniqueness of the strategy and potential configuration of relation with Novaya Gazeta.
