This work is devoted to the relationship between emotional intelligence and personality status in the group of 1st year students of the Nizhny Novgorod department of management of the Higher School of Economics. The concept of emotional intelligence, the prerequisites and approaches to its study, its structure, as well as the influence of emotional intelligence on the status in the group are analyzed. In the process of work, an empirical study is carried out using a sociometric survey and a questionnaire of Emin D.V. Lucina. Later, a correlation analysis of the obtained data is carried out and a linear relationship between the emotional intelligence and the status of the individual in the group is revealed.
