Comparison of the Approaches in Spatial Development of the Biggest Russian Cities

A rising density of population generates different problems dealing with comfortable accommodation of citizens. This study investigates such a problem as uneven spatial distribution of citizens across the whole territory of the city. Using theoretical knowledge and statistical data, three Russian cities: Moscow, Perm’, Yekaterinburg, with the population more than one million people and cities with different types of development, were selected for further research. The results of analysis of these cities showed the necessity of compact development of the biggest part of Russian cities for their future effective development. It was also revealed that there are a number of problems in urban and spatial development, which were found after investigation of international experience. The structure of the research paper is as follows of theoretical, practical part and estimated results. This project paper also shows that Russia lags behind the majority of European cities in the issue of urban development.
