A growing number of young people are choosing to study abroad nowadays. In this perspective, China became one of the major educational centers among international students over the past several years. Russia at the same time is the leading source country of students for China today. However, this subject is virtually neglected in Russian migration studies. The purpose of the present study is to discover the reasons that drive Russian students to move to China for education purposes.

To explore the factors, that affect students’ decision-making process, two-steps study was conducted. The first part, quantitative, consisted of 13 semi-structured interviews. The second part, survey, involved 305 Russian students who studied in China. It was found that 6 factors affect Russian students' decision-making process to study in China: «Russian Image», «Culture», «Chinese Economy», «Friendship Networks», «Networks», and «Mobility Capital». Thus, the revised «Push-Pull» model was proposed, that included several original factors and Network Theory. Moreover, we argue that the process consists of two steps instead of three as original model suggests: 1) Decision to study in China; 2) Choosing university.
