Peculiarities of the Creditworthiness Assessment of the Russian Meat Processing Companies
Economics
(Bachelor’s programme)

2017
The Presidential decree of August 6, 2014 was issued to impose a food embargo on the certain countries because of unstable political situation in the world. The devaluation of the ruble, the underdevelopment of the raw material base, the decrease of the purchasing power of the population and low investment attractiveness caused serious losses for the food industry, in particular meat processing enterprises. However, further development of meat processing companies is probable due to taking credits from commercial banks. Emerging credit relations are associated with high credit risk that can be avoided by detailed assessment of the creditworthiness of enterprises. At the moment, the existing methods of creditworthiness assessment do not take into account the characteristics of the meat-processing industry. Consequently, the research purpose is to create an express-method for assessing the creditworthiness of Russian meat-processing enterprises taking into account specific features of the industry.

The first chapter of the research paper provides a theoretical justification for credit and credit risk. The second chapter studies the main domestic and foreign methods for assessing the creditworthiness of legal entities. In the third chapter, a financial analysis of the sampling companies is carried out according to the methodology of Rosselkhozbank and their tendency to bankruptcy is determined according to the Springate model. Then a regression model is constructed, which determines the most significant coefficients for assessing the creditworthiness of the meat processing industry.

The result of the research is the creation of an express-method for assessing the creditworthiness of food industry companies, particularly, the meat processing sector. The express-method will allow commercial banks to reduce the risk of non-repayment of credit and interest, and it is also useful for food companies while analyzing their business processes.
