Modern Tendencies in Multilateral and National Regulation of the Steel Market

Iron and steel market is an industry of a great significance due to the importance and adaptability of steel as a key material for many sectors. However, in recent years the sector has entered a recession caused by low demand incapable to cover the rapidly-growing global capacity. In this context the mission of the government requires expansion of protectionist policy aimed at protection of intern industry that is strategically important for sustainable growth of any country. Generally stated, the purpose of the proposed research is to outline the main aspects of multilateral and national steel market regulation, find out which of them make the center stage in identifying current tendencies. Methods of regression analysis and comparative approach will be used to evaluate the effect of protectionism and relative financial indices will be employed to examine impact of subsidizing. This study will throw light on the current stance of international iron and steel market putting emphasis on the strongest trends caused by the regulation both on national and international levels, among which increase of political protectionist initiatives in form of antidumping and countervailing duties is assumed to be the most important. Finally, based on this information the strategy of developing Russian steel market’s regulation will be outlined.
