Foreign Policy Implications of F.E.Cardozo`s Stabilizing Economic Policy

In this work the author analyzes changing of the positioning of Brazil in the foreign policy during the period the F. H. Cardoso’s stabilizing economic policy from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s. The author highlights the goal of demonstrating that the domestic economic modernization of Brazil was the key factor that influenced the fact that by the end of “Cardoso’s Era” Brazil had taken the leading position in Latin America and also became one of the global leaders in the world economic system and the system of international relations. In addition, the author illustrates that the economic policy of this kind was a consequence of the objective internal and external factors. The paper answers to the question of why the positioning of Brazil in the international affairs changed exactly under F. H. Cardoso. Furthermore, the author links the stages of the process of economic stabilization with the stages of Latin American integration and the transformation of the global role of Brazil. Finally, the author shows the effect of Cardoso’s policy on the international environment. Key words: F. H. Cardoso, stabilizing economic policy, “Cardoso’s Era”, “Plan Real”, inflation.
