Educational Programme: International Relations (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2017

This study is a comprehensive analysis of the current problems of international regulation of the Syrian crisis, with an emphasis on the role of various external actors in it. In the face of the increasing negative consequences of the ongoing conflict and the transformation of international relations, the issue of interaction between the main actors in the international crisis management, including the world's major superpowers - the United States and Russia, as well as an assessment of the effectiveness of the crisis impact mechanisms used by international organizations like UN is extremely important for determining the main reasons for the lack of serious progress in the regulatory process. The reasons for the situation around the Syrian conflict are considered within the framework of the theory of classical realism, and in particular, based on such concepts as the balance of power and national interest. In the process of the research, the author concludes that the lack of an effective mechanism by the United Nations to influence the permanent members of the Security Council is the main problem of regulating the crisis now, as the countries are not ready to cede their interests in the absence of coercive authorities.
