The purpose of the study is to identify the patterns that exist in the charitable sector. The first chapter outlines the theoretical framework that reveals the notion of charity, the purpose and ways of existence of charitable foundations, and the role of charitable organizations in the life of society. Since it is not possible to analyze the charitable funds globally, due to the difficulties associated with the legislation of different countries, as well as the inability to compare the available data, the study is conditionally divided into 2 parts, which are set out in the second and third chapter, respectively. In the second chapter, a descriptive and regression analysis of Russian charitable foundations was conducted on the basis of data provided by the "Need Help" fund. The main categories that receive the largest total donations in Russia are determined. An effective scheme for fundraising of funds for the implementation of charity programs is described. A problem has been identified that hampers the development of charity in Russia. The third chapter analyzed the number of donors of charitable organizations for 99 countries for the period 2011-2016 for 5 indicators. The World Bank Charity Support and Development Fund, World Health Organization, World Bank, American Institute of Public Opinion acted as a source of data on indicators. The analysis is based on the work with panel data: a model of integrated regression, models with fixed and random effects is constructed. The indicators that have an unquestionable influence on the percentage of charitable fund donors have been revealed, the influence of existing stereotypes on the number of donors has been refuted.
