In the paper the issue of European security integration and the role of Germany in this process are analysed. Both within-country situation in Germany and cross-country correlation between the EU members were investigated. The literature regarding the discussion on the issue of European security system transformation in Russian so far has been very scarce. This study aims to analyse the most possible way of EU security system development and role of Germany in this process. Mixed-methods research design will be used to estimate the influence of Germany on the discussion about creation of joint EU Army. Historical evidence will provide an opportunity to compare different periods of European integration including security. Financial data connected to military forces of EU-members will allow us to understand the current structure of security system and role of Germany within it. Nevertheless, further studies on factors influencing the transformation of European security system are needed to explain why Germany is the most possible leader in this process. The author also suggests a possible necessity to find more statistical data to provide more arguments in favor of German key role. Keywords: EU security policy, German foreign policy
