The Role of Business in Promoting Sustainable Development in Russian cities

In this paper explored roles of public and private sector in governing sustainable development with the focus on exact roles business plays in contributing to sustainable development of a city. After discussing which issues of TBL are important and how companies address them, a special attention was drawn on interactions between public and private sector, their roles in policy process. This paper suggests that business is an important part of the governance process as it has strong economic power, showing the role of business in driving sustainable urban development on example of a company of mining industry (“Norilsk Nickel”) and monotowns (Norilsk city).
