The Attitude of Spanish Society to Immigrants from Latin America and Maghreb: Comparative Analysis

The research paper covers an attitude of Spanish society to the immigration at the present stage. Special emphasis is played on the comparative analysis of the relations between Spanish residents and migrants from Latin America and Maghreb as they are the representatives of other culture, religion and traditions. There have been examined factors which affected Spanish public opinion about Latin American and North African incomers. The first chapter of the study is dedicated to the migration scope and dynamics in the regions under consideration. The second one provides the analysis of Spanish migration policy evolution during the last decade taking into account the disagreement of Spanish leading political parties about the issue. The attention is also paid to the migrant integration process in Spanish society and to the role of muss media in construction of public opinion about immigration. The final part of the paper consists a comparative analysis of Spanish innates’ attitude to immigrants based on the statistics and the data of public opinion surveys. According to the outcomes of the research Spanish people tend to be more loyal to Latin American settlers while Muslim migrants tend to experience xenophobia.
