The Dinamics of Agenda Setting in the Russian Media in Relation to the Development of Media Catching Practice

The research focused on media agenda setting and a new format of media relations called “media catching”. The aim is to reveal a presence and characteristics of correlation between media agenda and agenda of the media catching services. The study employed content analyses of 817 news stories and 181 requests from the media catching service. Next, the data were examined through correlations and cross-lagged correlations analyses. We found that media coverage correlated with the media catching service. What is more, media catching issue emphasis preceded media coverage and influenced it. Finally, the sources of information were more diverse in the news stories employed media catching. The findings suggested significant media catching effects on media agenda and more active engagement of newsmakers in content creation.
