Today, referenda are becoming a popular means of solution of extremely important nation-wide issues in democratic systems. However, the lack of experience in the information support of this specific political event leads to the fact that organizers of information campaigns in the mass media fail to achieve their goals, and communication turns out to be inefficient. This research is aimed at understanding, relying on the experience of the media support of the UK Referendum, how it is possible to organize a successful information media campaign for covering of the referendum in today's realities. Based on the results of the conducted research in line with the functional approach to the research of the media discourse, competing information campaigns were analyzed in the context of the media discourse about the British exit from the EU and specifics of their information war.
