Anonymisation of Personal Data and Privacy in the Era of Big Data

The proliferation of the Big Data technologies has led to inability of anonymisation to guarantee the right to privacy standalone. The author of this paper has examined the personal data protection legislation of the Russian Federation and the EU, relevant court practice and current business practices of dealing with the Big Data analytics and has concluded that modernization of the legislation in terms of the legal regime for anonymised data and personal data in the Russian Federation and the EC is necessary. Additionally, the paper analyses current suggestions on paths of further development of the legislation, which are aimed at reinforcing the right to privacy in the landscape of rapid development of informational technologies.
